Obstetric assessment for patients with pain with include questions on how the pain started, what makes it worse or better. We will rule out “sinister” causes by asking relevant questions; check which functions are limited; advise you on exercises and movement corrections that will help with the pain management.
For gynaecological issues such as incontinence and prolapse we include detailed questioning to assess the urinary, vaginal and bowel functions. Once the problems affecting the pelvic floor are diagnosed, the patient will be taught how to exercise pelvic floor (or relax, depending on the presenting complaints). Some patients may need to complete bladder charts and then be advised on bladder training, bowel training and lifestyle changes that will help with the problem.
