A little bit about Lou and Sarah
I am a mother of two young adult sons and live in Acton with my husband. I have been an NCT Doula since 2017 and an NCT Antenatal Teacher since 2011 and recently qualified as an NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor. I am also a peer breastfeeding counsellor at Imperial Trust Maternity Hospital Queen Charlotte’s in Hammersmith.
As an antenatal teacher I have supported hundreds of parents to birth and parent with confidence and in their own individual ways. As a doula I have attended many births at both at home, in hospital, planned and un-planned caesarean births, multiple births and I have worked with many diverse families and with unique situations. I am kind, goodhumoured and resourceful, and have the skills and experience to support women and their partners during the exciting but often challenging process of labour and birth.
People say I have a “way” with babies who seem to like the way I hold them, talk, interact and find out about them, and I am never embarrassed to sing and play with them. I hope to help parents decode their babies, and be kind to themselves as they learn exactly what works for them.
I am an active Member of Chelsea Westminster and Middlesex hospital Maternity Voices Partnership working to improve the experiences of women birthing at these units.
I am fluent in French and Spanish. When I get any spare time then you might find me at bootcamp in Acton Park, or baking, reading and restoring antiques.
I’m a mum of four and proud grandmother of three little ones. I started doula-ing way back in 2004.
After a first career as a national newspaper journalist and author of 3 parenting books, I decided to focus on my passion for supporting other parents through the childbirth journey and beyond. I believe all women deserve a positive birth experience and that all parents can learn to feel confident and to enjoy their parenting.
The doula journey led me to teach hypnobirthing, which I value for the empowering skills it gives women, and to become a National Childbirth Trust antenatal teacher.
I’m a complete geek when it comes to absorbing new learning and research - Lou says I always have some kind of study programme on the go! - which is why in recent years I have added qualifications including National Childbirth Trust Breastfeeding and Postnatal Support, the Body Ready Method and Lyndsey Hookway’s Holistic Sleep Coach programme to Level 6, the top level.
I live with my husband and beloved cockapoo Merlin in Shepherds Bush, West London where I also offer pro bono infant feeding support for Family Champions.
