grantenatal

A fun way for the older generation to refresh their wisdom and get up to date with babycare. Each Grantenatal Workshop comprises two 90 minute live Zoom sessions followed by an extensive information pack.

What’s tummy time? Is my daughter spoiling her baby by picking him up? Why is my son wearing a papoose thing? What’s “safe sleep”? And where’s the talcum powder gone?

To answer all these baffling questions and many more, we invite you and your family members to the Grantenatal Workshop: an grandparent refresher course for grandparents-to-be and new grandparents!

It’s not like other grandparent courses you may come across. I focus on updating the grandparent’s knowledge with the latest research around babies: whether it be birth, feeding, sleeping or just caring.

Use the Grantenatal Workshop as a grandparents’ antenatal class, a wisdom refresh between grandchildren - however you like.

Click on the button above to book a place; or if you want to know more, send me the contact form below.

The course is a live, interactive Zoom presentation. It is not a pre-recorded course: participants are welcome to join in the chat (or if they prefer they may leave their cameras and mics off for privacy).

It’s pretty intensive, so to avoid frying your brain, it is delivered in two sessions of 90 minutes each, spread over two weekday evenings around cocktail hour (6.00 to 7.30pm). Days of the week vary across the year…we hope this will enable more grandparents and grandparents-to-be to take part in the session.

After each course I send the participants an easily accessed collection of reputable, evidence-based information sources - including videos, articles, links to high quality information websites. The participants have access to this collection indefinitely.

If you are expecting a new member of the family soon, there is sure to be someone in the family who would enjoy the Grantenatal Workshop!

Grantenatal course - Excellent! Highly recommended! Evidence-based course outlining what’s changed since grandparents had their own children. I felt confident that what I learned was backed up by scientific research, lots of useful resources were provided which I can access when the need arises.

I was a bit indignant when my son mentioned it … I think I said he was obviously a miracle baby as he’d survived my parenting! - but focussing on what had changed in the intervening years was very interesting. It was also helpful to know what [the new parents] had been learning... But also to stress that a lot HASN’T changed.

grandparents refresher course on Zoom with The Baby Experience
Absolutely brilliant Grantenatal class on Zoom.
I am so glad I ignored friends who said “you don’t need that, you’ve had two children”! I had mine over 30 years ago, and the class focuses on what has changed in that time - which is quite a lot!
Sarah covered a huge amount of ground, never rushing, giving plenty of time for us to ask questions. A very full and informative 3 hours.

Dear Sarah, I cant tell you how much i enjoyed and learnt from your Grantenatal. It was excellent. I now feel inspired and so much better prepared for my role as ‘grandparent’. My daughter is asking me loads of questions and I now feel up to date and informed to chat to her about things….I really really appreciate you running this course. I would like to see them integrated into child care services as I think wider family care adds so much, not just to the individual child, but to our society as a whole.

“An amazing amount of information was given and I am still processing some of it!”

“I feel much more prepared to help my daughter and baby with up to date knowledge so we are singing from the same hymn sheet”

“Sarah covered a great deal of valuable information in the workshop. It was serious and sensitive but also friendly, with members encouraged to participate. Through the workshop I feel calmer and more confident that I can play the best part I can for my grandchild and their parents”

What is covered in the two 90 minute sessions of the Grantenatal Workshop:

  • the best (and worst) gifts for new families

  • birth choices

  • the microbiome

  • breast milk research and all aspects of baby feeding

  • postnatal mental wellness

  • safe sleeping for babies

  • sleep training

  • what we’ve learned about babies’ brains

  • bathing

  • nappies

  • babywearing - slings and carriers

  • baby-led weaning

  • A regularly updated background information list will be sent to you after the course

Some more things grandparents say about the Grantenatal Workshop…

“We thoroughly enjoyed the course. It did exactly what we expected and brought us up to speed with all the vast number of changes in the last 40 years since our own NCT classes. It was also fun.

— Carole

“Such a lot of information presented with kindness and understanding to help me be the best granny that I can be.”

— Elizabeth

“I learnt a lot so feel prepared to help my daughter when her baby arrives. I now feel up to date with how things have moved on since I had my children.”

— Rebecca

“A very informative session which used a variety of teaching methods. I learnt a lot, especially the changes to childbirth/ child rearing techniques since I had my children! (In the 80s). We were also sent a link for further information on all manner of topics which will be useful for both parents and the supportive grandparents. Very good value for money I would say. Thank you very much, Sarah at The Baby Experience.”
